How a Minor Party Candidate Could Win the US Presidency

Difficult, but not impossible.

Conditions

To open the door to a successful minor party run, the two major parties need to be ideologically similar (uniparty) and unpopular (oligarchy).

Uniparty

In some respects, we have a uniparty. Mandatory spending is eating up more of the budgeting process therefore putting much of it into auto drive. Both sides want the Fed to lower interest rates so it’s easier to transfer wealth from workers to Wall Street. The Left argues for a lot more government, the Right argues for a bit less so they compromise on more.

But there are still substantial policy differences between the major parties…

Oligarchy

As wealth and political inequality grows it insulates more of our political class from popular opinion.
