I too became this way. I like how history puts my own problems into context, like how I can complain about my shoe laces getting untied, but then grandpa can say, “Son, when I was your age I had to walk 5 miles barefoot in the snow to get to school.” And I like how the greats reveal how resilient the human spirit can be. Like success can seem so distant, but then to see how men and women who had far less, in tougher times, were able to rise up gives me inspiration.
